Specialty Classes

Therapeutic

Our Therapeutic Pilates program is lead by a physiotherapist who is also a STOTT PILATES instructor. Our program specializes in spinal issues such as herniations, disk damage & deterioration, simple and complex scoliosis and varying degrees of spinal cord injury and paralysis. We also use STOTT PILATES to improve other conditions of neurological impairment such as Parkinsons' Disease, Multiple Sclerosis and Fibromyalgia. Receipts are provided for private sessions with the physiotherapist.

As our private Therapeutic clients progress, they are invited to transition into small group classes, where possible, with other participants of similar conditions. These small groups are maximum 4 participants and are overseen by the physiotherapist and a registered massage therapist. Our client's continued health and optimum safety is our first priority. We require a doctor's permission for you to begin practicing pilates and we prefer to work in tandem with your other health care providers to eliminate contraindications. Please speak with the director for further information.

Pre-Natal Pilates
Duration: 55 minutes
Class Capacity: 4-6 participants
Pre-requisite: Must be pregnant, have doctor’s permission and have been active in pilates before becoming pregnant

All pre-natal classes are taught by certified instructors with training specific to pregnancy. The classes take every precaution for the mother and baby, while still providing a gentle workout that helps the mother maintain good postural habits. It’s also a great social get-together. These classes can get pretty lively!

Pre-teen and Teen Pilates
Duration: 45 minutes
Class Capacity: 6 participants (ages 10-16)

Sessions for Pre-teen and Teen Pilates are open classes just like the adult classes. Participants work in the studio one afternoon a week for 45 minutes plus they are given several exercises each week to perfect at home.

We encourage participants to make a commitment to coming for several weeks in a row to get the full benefits of pilates. Due to the complicated nature of “teen” scheduling, we understand that school activities often take priority. However, it is important for parents to be aware that the participants will see progress at a slightly slower rate if they are coming only sporadically.

Programme objectives for Teen Pilates are:
- to introduce the basic principles of pilates exercise
- to teach essential exercises that work in all planes of movement
- to begin creating an awareness of what our body does for us
- to teach skills and techniques that improve focus and teach students how to listen to what their bodies are telling them; a skill particularly valuable for preventing injury in future activities and sports
